A book that touched my heart
ResponderEliminarThe book that has recently touched my heart is “Good bye to parents” (Adiós a los padres) by Hector Aguilar Camín, a Mexican writer. This book is about the author’s parents´ life from their first encounter in Quintana Roo to their last days in Mexico City. The novel was inspired by an old photo of them taken in a beach carpetted by pebbles . The actual photo is shown on the front cover.
The story does not have a chronological order since it starts with a coincidence in a hospital where both parents are being taken care ofdue to different health problems. The father can make it, but the mother can not.
The novel is an emotional discovery of what parents actually are… human beings, with flaws and imperfections. But it isn’t until adulthood that we accept them the way they are and we love and admire them even more.
I would say that this tale moved me really deeply because when I started reading it, my father was in the hospital suffering from kidney cancer. He couldn’t make it and passed away last November. After my father’s death, I tried to catch up with my reading, needless to say I couldn’t put it down!
Hector Aguilar Camin gives us a true story with characters as complex as any fictional one, they grow throught the book, they learn their lessons the hard way: by making mistakes and moreover, they live and love.
The only weakness I could find was the intricrate development of events appearing in non-chronological order. This makes it difficult and challinging to follow since he sometimes goes back and forward in time.
All in all the author acomplishes his job, to bring a story that reveals the yearning for lost our parents.
